I woke Thursday morning with a detached retina. Friday evening my eye doctors sent me to see Dr. Stephens. Saturday morning, I was under the knife to save my vision. Saturday afternoon I was home recovering. Monday had to have a few bubbles put into my eye to stint my retina. Tuesday after the bubbles in the right place. I spent the next 8 days on my left side. Dr. Stephens and his fellow were the best.  ~Brian J.

I thank God for Dr. Stephens! He saved my eye and has restored as much vision as possible to it after my car accident. He has been very patient and understanding and has always made me feel comfortable on my visits. I was a basket case after the accident and would break down in tears if anyone or anything ever got near my eye. I never had a problem with Dr. Stephens. I live in Georgia and make the 12 hour trip to Ohio to see Dr. Stephens. I would recommend him to anyone I know. He has be a blessing to me. ~Dimitra N.

“Dr. Stephens is an excellent ophthalmologist along with his staff of professional doctors. Dr. Stephens performed surgery on my eye due to a macular hole. I am so very pleased with the surgery. I can see better each day. My eye is continually improving towards a healthy eye sight. I would recommend Dr. Stephens and his staff to anyone. Thank you all so very much for saving my eye sight.”                                                                                                  ~Diane S.

“How do I begin to thank the man who saved my sight? Being told that I had a retinal detachment was terrifying. But there was never a moment when I didn’t feel safe in your hands. Thank you for all you’ve done to preserve my sight… I don’t have the words to tell you truly grateful I am. Your staff is exceptional… very compassionate. You’re a great doctor and a great human being. May God bless you always.”

“I highly recommend Dr. Stephens. I had seen another retina specialist in the area who had diagnosed me with macular degeneration and pretty much said live with it there’s nothing you can do except change your diet and see you in a year. When that year period was up I decided to change doctors and made an appointment to see Dr. Stephens. First visit he sat down with me and explained everything. Approximately 6 mths later while seeing my regular eye dr for an exam he saw a hemotoma and advised I follow up with Dr. Stephens ASAP. I got in right away with him and within 2 days I was having laser surgery to fix it. He takes great concern in his patients. I saw him today for a check up and deep down I felt I was going to get bad news and he could sense it when he came in, we talked and he did his exam on my eyes and then showed me my scans from previous visits compared to today and everything we were watching cleared itself up, something we were worried was going to require surgery, but he chose to watch with me promising if anything changed I would call him right away on his cell phone. Everytime I see him he always makes sure to tell me if there is any concerns or changes to call him right away on his cell phone and always makes sure his patients have his cell phone number. I would not go anywhere else! Thank you Dr Stephens for being the caring dr you are :)”

“Almost eight years ago I experienced a vitreal detachment which resulted in a very large opacity obstructing my vision in my right eye. It moved from side to side but was always visible. Everyday activities such as driving, reading and working were difficult and frustrating.”

” Over the years I sought help from several specialists; not one was willing to address my problem. One even complained that I wasted his time.”

“I recently visited a new ophthalmologist for a routine exam. He could not understand why I had suffered with that opacity for so long and recommended I see Dr. Stephens for an evaluation. Could I finally hope for a miracle?”

“When Dr. Stephens assured me that he could perform a vitrectomy to remove the opacity I was moved to tears. I agreed that we should proceed with the FOV. His genuine concern, as well as his technical knowledge and experience convinced me that the reward was worth any risks. The procedure went smoothly; exactly as he described it. Afterwards, Dr. Stephens, Dr. Calderon and the rest of the staff were caring and attentive in the follow-up evaluations and treatment throughout my recovery.”

” I am thrilled with the result. The opacity is gone without a trace and my vision has returned to normal. As an additional benefit, almost all of the numerous floaters that I had since my teen years are gone.”

“I can never fully express my gratitude to Dr. Stephens. I can only hope that others will also benefit from his life altering skills and his compassionate manner.”

“On behalf of the Melvin Jones District 13D Lions Eye Care Foundation, I want to thank you for your generosity to provide the laser eye treatment for Donna. Donna was referred by a local Lions Club for laser treatment she was unable to afford.”

“Although the Eye Care Foundation authorized a limited amount to pay for treatment you waived not only the exam, but the entire treatment. Your concern for Donna’s situation and the limited funds of the Eye Care Foundation is very much appreciated. Your generosity has provided a very necessary treatment for Donna to prevent blindness.”

“I have been a patient at MetroHealth since the 1980’s. In 2005 I had a corneal transplant performed by Dr. Steinemann. Unfortunately, in the past year my body has rejected the transplant, and most recently the eye became infected and the retina detached.”

“On March 9th, Dr. Steinemann and Dr. Stephens, will operate on my eye in tandem as the rejecting cornea is removed, a port hole placed in the eye, the retina repaired and a new cornea transplant attached.”

“How fortunate I am to have a team with such skilled physicians and a family of wonderful staff supporting them.”

“My sincere and heartfelt thanks … excellent health care that is provided to our community.”

“Thanks to you and your staff for making possible the excellent results of my eye operation. My spider-like floater is gone from the center of my vision as a result of the vitrectomy you preformed.”

“As an unexpected, but added bonus, the removal of the retinal membrane eliminated the distortions caused by my retinal scar. I had resigned myself to having to live with those distortions for the rest of my life. I am extremely pleased that you were able to correct this problem as well.”

“The vision of my eye has improved nicely, ahead of forecast, and for that I am thankful.”

“Thank you all, for what I consider to be a very successful outcome.”

“I am writing this letter to express my sincere gratitude for all the hard work and dedication your organization has shown me. Most people would think that this past year has been extremely unlucky for me, at times I sometimes do. However, if I had not been where I was, at the time of our automobile accident, I may have never met the most amazing doctors I have ever known, and been lucky enough to receive the gift of sight once more.”

“This past Feb 1st, my husband and I were involved in a traumatic accident. While turning, a car smashed into my passenger door, shattering the window into may pieces that buried into my face and eyes. The glass in my right eye was only superficial and my sight was not affected. My left eye was not so lucky. After my hospital stay was complete, Dr. Joseph Ross referred me to Dr. Donald Stephens. Dr. Stephens discussed the procedures he would take to save my eye. I was scheduled for surgery on Feb. 20th to have a vitrectomy and lens replacement. Upon beginning ht surgery, he unfortunately found that there were two pieces of glass still in my eye and that my own cornea, which was blood stained and still contained many sutures for the previous surgery was in no condition to be reused. He knew that I would eventually be able to regain my vision and decided to make a call.”

“He placed a call to the Eye Bank while I was on the operating table. Fortunately for me, there was one cornea available that was a match. The cornea was delivered to the hospital within 30mins of the call and Dr. Stephens was already on the phone with Dr. Thomas Stieneman to replace my cornea.”

“I then went on for 6 more months with my new cornea while awaiting my lens replacement. I had my lens replacement surgery one August 13th – 2 days after my 29th birthday and I could not have received a better gift! I owe it all to the greatest doctors I have ever had! Thank you all so much for all that you do!”
